Fish claims that people should follow a standard English which will prevent them to be a target for racism. This mean students do not have the right to their own languages because that make them vulnerable to prejudice. On the other hand , Young does not believe in standard English .He claims there is no way that only one form of English is proper, and also,he points out that people should know and be open to a mixing of dialect in oral and writing communication.
I concur with Young that writers should use their own English because their languages express who they are, and there is not a standard language ideology that say people should write and speak only a type of English as longer people respect their grammatical rules and understanding words. Therefore, people do not have to take away their dialect .Also, people who think there is a standard English should stop prejudice about Black African dialect ,and accept other dialects.
“Wouldn’t we all become multidialectal and pluralingual ? And that’s my exact argument, that we all should know everybody’s dialect,at least as many as we can , and be open to other to the mix of them in oral and writen communication (Young)”.
“Some varieties of English are associated with a particular social, ethnic or other community . African Americans English is perhaps the best-known of these Englishes. Not all African Americans use it ,and those who do may not use it exclusively. Not all of its users are African Americans themselves. All of its users, however, follow the conventions and rules that make this variety of English consistent and recognizable”.
